Triangular and wonderfully fragrant, tetelas originated from Mexico’s Mixtec region (which encompasses parts of Oaxaca, Puebla, and Guerrero) by the native peoples who call themselves “People of the Rain.” They are handheld masa pockets traditionally filled with beans, served often on their own — like tacos  — and considered an antojito (Spanish for little craving).
